Description

Sexual Health Victoria understand that best practice Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE) includes a whole school approach. Educators may need additional training in order to confidently deliver RSE and engage with the wider school community. In this course participants will examine current knowledge and methods of best practice in the area of Relationships and Sexuality Education. Understanding the full scope of RSE will help educators feel confident that they are delivering the correct information at the right time. 

SHV online learning courses are developed by experienced sexuality educators. All curriculum materials and learning activities provided are aligned with the Victorian and Australian Curriculum.

Course Overview

Participants will be guided through a range of topic areas and given guidance for age-appropriate delivery. This includes content on body safety; protective behaviours; consent; puberty; reproduction; online sexual content; sex and the law; sexual relationships; contraception; STIs; accessing health services; and help seeking.

Learning Intentions

Participants will:

  • identify methods of best practice in Relationships and Sexuality Education
  • establish a framework to support a whole-school approach for Relationships and Sexuality Education in schools
  • develop strategies to answer questions with confidence
  • identify methods of engaging school leaders, parents and the wider school community
  • acquire specialist activities/resources to support teaching and learning in the workplace.

Entry Requirements/Eligibility

This course is designed for educators (pre-service teachers/teachers/aides/welfare) and school nurses working within school settings.
