Disability School -Student Classroom Sessions – Enquiry

Sexual Health Victoria’s (SHV) can deliver Relationships and Sexuality Education to students with cognitive disability SHV expert educators use evidence based, age- and developmentally-appropriate programs and resources.

Course Dates

Description

Sexual Health Victoria expert educators can tailor a program to suit the needs of your students. Each session will run for no more than 1 hour. Each session will include information, activities, values clarification and an opportunity for students to ask questions.

Programs are supported by Towards Foundation Level (Level A-D) through to Levels 3-10 of the Australian and Victorian Curriculum. Activities utilise Boardmaker® images to support student understanding.

Sessions are built around the following topic areas:

  • Anatomy (including reproductive) and hygiene
  • Pregnancy and birth (including conception)
  • Puberty and managing changes
  • Public and private
  • Appropriate/Inappropriate behaviour and touch
  • Respectful Relationships and dating
  • Consent and the law
  • Sexual decision making
  • Safer sex (including Contraception and STIs)
  • Online safety, Sexting and pornography

It is requested that:

  • the maximum number of students in a session is 15 (for high functioning, low support) and 10 (for low functioning, high support).
  • audience needs and capacity are considered when allocating class time (1 hour maximum)
  • students are grouped together based upon their cognitive ability
  • teachers and/or support staff be present
