Year 9-10 EveryBODY Education Program – Enquiry

SHV has designed comprehensive Relationships & Sexuality Education programs which align with the Victorian and Australian Curriculum. Sensitive topics are covered using age-appropriate materials and language. Programs are delivered by experienced, trained SHV educators. Sessions will include information, activities, discussion and an opportunity for students to ask questions.

Year 9 - 10 everyBODY Education program

Schools can choose from a range of topics to suit their needs.

These 90 minute sessions are delivered by expert SHV educators to classes no larger than 27 students.
Face to face or online delivery available. Lecture style presentations are available on request.

Best practice Relationships and Sexuality Education recommend schools deliver a minimum 2 or more of the topics listed below each year in students’ home room groups. Parent sessions and professional development are strongly encouraged to support student outcomes in line with a whole school approach.

Course Content

Accessing health services

Note: Can be delivered as excursion at SHV Melbourne Clinic Elizabeth ST, CBD
Provides students with information to navigate healthcare and take responsibility for their own health including sexual health.
• identify the rights of young people regarding managing their health and accessing services
• identify methods to overcome potential barriers for young people accessing health services

Diversity: Bodies, Gender, Sexuality

Includes discussion around diversity of sex, sexuality and gender. Promotes inclusion and pride.
• define sexuality, gender, orientation, sex and identity
• identify key factors related to the emergence of an individual’s sexuality
• explore ways to support diversity and promote inclusivity

Healthy relationships and consent

Discusses themes of respect, consent, mutuality and communication as being key features of health interpersonal relationships. Identifies what makes a relationship unhealthy and provides help seeking pathways.
• identify the factors which make for healthy and respectful relationships
• examine the laws surrounding young people and sex
• clarify the issues surrounding consent
• develop strategies for giving and receiving consent

Sexual Decision Making

Provides detail on age of consent laws and opportunity to reflect on personal values in relation to sex.
• consider the different choices and potential outcomes of the decisions made in relation to a person’s sexual health
• Consider personal values and sexual decision making
• Age of consent laws
• Review the role of consent in sexual decision making
• Social expectations of sex

Safer Sex, Contraception and Sexually Transmissible Infections (STIs)

Details on available contraception options are provided. STI detection and treatment explained.

• become informed about the latest contraception options, methods of STI prevention
• learn about STI testing and treatment
• identify help seeking and health services

Sexual Content Online

Explore the difference between what the media (including pornography) presents as love, sex and relationships and the reality. Laws and ethics of sharing sexual images discussed.
• Apply media literacy skills to sexual content online, including pornography
• Explain laws relating to sexual content online
• Understand Image Based Abuse
• Identify reporting avenues
