Understanding relationships

This workshop is for young people between 8-16 years with cognitive disability (including Intellectual Disability, Autism Spectrum Disorder and Acquired Brain Injury) and their parent/carer.

The workshop is focussed on the experience of the young person and provides parents and carers the opportunity to engage in conversations and activities around relationships and sexuality. The workshop will also provide an opportunity to network with other families in a supportive environment.

Learning Intentions

Participants will:

• Revise knowledge of puberty and hygiene
• Identifydifferent types of relationships
• Identify the qualities someone may want in a friend
• Begin to understand sexual feelings and crushes
• Explore how to start and end romantic relationships

All participants will have an opportunity to ask questions of expert disability and community educators.  

Workshop details

• Sessions run for 1.5 hours.
• A minimum of 2 is required for this course

NDIS Information

We are not a NDIS registered provider. If a participant has a plan manager, we can send an invoice directly to them. Please enter the plan manager’s details in the registration form when prompted. Select the invoice option at payment. Invoices will be issued after the session.
