Teaching Notes

This is a way for students to warm up and feel relaxed about words related to puberty and the sexual and reproductive body parts in class.

Procedure

  1. Distribute an ‘Autograph Hunt' worksheet to each student.
  2. Students to circulate around the classroom and find students who fit into each of the categories listed on their worksheet. When they find someone who does, students are to sign their name under
    each category.
  3. Give students 10 minutes to collect their answers.
  4. Explain that future sessions will contain information and words that might be embarrassing to some students and that this is perfectly normal. Over time they will learn to use the words in context, and this will make them feel less shy or uncomfortable.

Questioning

  1. What is puberty? What are some changes that occur during puberty?
  2. Have many students in the class have spoken to their adults regarding puberty?
  3. Were there any responses in which you were surprised by? Why?
  4. What people or sources of information can an individual access if they have any further questions?
